FAQs on our Bookings and Colour Services
Thank you for booking with The Colour Lair… We aim to please every single client
and produce the perfect colour every time.
There may be some questions that you may have for us, so please take the time to read through and lets get better acquainted
How much notice do I need to give for a booking request?
Our salon is very structured in order to complete every service to standard. You may be in luck and snatch one on the day but generally there may be up to 4-5 days wait during the week. On Thursday’s nights and Saturdays the wait can be up to 3-4 weeks. After your first visit we will offer you the opportunity to book in advance so that you will not have to wait in the future for a booking. We also have a wait list and we will call you if you need an urgent booking.
How long will my colour booking be?
Typically a booking is for three hours, which includes enough time for a consultation, colour application, toning and styling. All foiling and lightening appointments times are extended to five to six hours, as much of the colour work we do is precise and creative and takes quite a long time to apply. Please bare in mind that any major colour changes (dark-light or colour corrections) will usually need more time. In some instances you will be required for a whole day. If we have not seen your hair prior to your visit and we find that you will need a major colour correction first or your hair is too damaged we may need to rebook you and not perform any service on that day. Our Colourists will only makeover your hair if they have enough time allocated and if your hair can handle any kind of chemical service. Sometimes pictures are deceiving and a 3-hour booking may need to end up a 6-hour booking.
How much will my hair cost?
If we have not seen your hair in person, we can only give a price guide and will give you a firm quote prior to the commencement of any work on the day of your booking.
What is colour build up and how will it affect the desired hair
that I am trying to achieve on my first visit?
Colour build up is any type of colour that has been put in your hair at any stage. Unless the hair is 100% grown out, you will most likely have old colour left which affects the type of result that you would like to achieve now. Quite often we get asked from clients how they can achieve blonde? Once you have colour build up it can take a long time to remove especially from dark tones. Usually you will see red, copper, orange, brass and then blonde. In some instances it can take a year to completely achieve your goal colour; it all depends on how easily it is removed. We will usually know after the first colour correction session a basic timeline for you. Please note- anyone with dark or vivid colours will need to book for a colour correction service before we can do a regular colour makeover. We will need you for at least 5-6 hours.
Can I achieve a clean blonde in one session?
It can be hard to understand why you are unable to achieve blonde in some instances right away. First of all genetics plays a huge part. Every single person has a natural underlying pigment, which is exposed with any form of lightening. For anyone with dark hair the most common pigment is red. If you have stubborn hair that struggles to lift well, it means you will have a long road ahead. You will have many “in between” colours of red, orange, copper, yellow and then possibly blonde. We have no idea how your hair will lift until you have had your first session. We use Snaplex to help keep the hair bonded during each session, though please keep in mind it isn’t a magic wand. Have faith in your Colourist and their recommendations. We want you as a client for life, not to ruin your hair. We may refuse a lightening service purely because we know you will regret it if your hair cannot cope. If you have a long journey to blonde, we will ensure that your “in between” colours are applied beautifully so that you can still feel beautiful.
Do you Guarantee your work?
We will guarantee any colour that was agreed upon during the consultation. Sometimes colours don’t take, or toners rinse out for various reasons that are specific to your hair, or your hair has gone brassy after a few washes. All of these things can be rectified easily and we want to know about it. Remember we are working with hair, chemicals and many external factors that can influence colour. Not 100% of every time can we say that a colour will turn out the way we want it to and we may need to make a few changes to your formula. No client should feel the need to go home disappointed and be too shy to say something, we will always accept your feedback with gratitude and appreciation that you give us the opportunity to re book you. We ask that if you have any issues to let us know within two weeks. Also if you booked in with a goal colour of blonde and your stylist has only committed to only be able to achieve an orange blonde for example due to hair safety then this is not classed as a fault.
